Russian Roulette odds
Each cylinder is loaded once with one live chamber. Every pull spends a chamber, so the odds on the next pull always get worse.
One cylinder, loaded once
The game picks the live chamber when the cylinder is loaded, using the browser's cryptographic random numbers, and then does not roll again. The cylinder has 6 chambers. With seven or eight players alive it has one chamber per player instead, so nobody can sit through a full lap without the bang landing. Every pull is not a fresh coin flip. The pulls before the bang are real risk.
| Pull | Chance of a bang | On screen |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 16.7% | 1 in 6 |
| 2 | 20.0% | 1 in 5 |
| 3 | 25.0% | 1 in 4 |
| 4 | 33.3% | 1 in 3 |
| 5 | 50.0% | 1 in 2 |
| 6 | 100% | Last chamber |
Why the label rises
Seen from the moment the cylinder is loaded, every pull has the same 1 in 6 chance of being the bang. The label rises because the earlier pulls were empty. For the person holding the phone, after four clicks, the live chamber is one of the two left, and the screen says 1 in 2. From 1 in 2 the label turns red.
A bang loads a new cylinder
When someone is out, the rest of that cylinder is thrown away, empty or not. The next player still in starts a fresh cylinder at 1 in 6. A cylinder always ends in a bang by its last chamber, so a two-player game can never run past six pulls.
The Spin
A Spin puts the live chamber somewhere new and the odds back to 1 in 6, which helps if you are standing at 1 in 2 and hurts if you are at 1 in 6 behind several clicks. It is one real decision per player. The players page covers how seat order evens things out, and the Fair rounds setting reloads the cylinder every round so each living player pulls exactly once.
